The Department of Microbiology and Immunology (Website) at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.  Applicants with more seniority will also be considered.  We are seeking an outstanding investigator who will establish a competitive research program in the area of microbial pathogenesis and host responses to infection.

This individual will join a group of 18 highly productive faculty members studying a diverse array of viruses, bacteria, and parasites.  Depending on the area of study, the candidate may interact with and benefit from the NIH Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE)-supported Center for Microbial Pathogenesis and Host Inflammatory Responses (Click Here).  Faculty in the department are expected to maintain an extramurally funded research program and contribute to the teaching and training of graduate and medical students.

Faculty and their laboratories are located in two connected Biomedical Research buildings on the UAMS Little Rock campus, with access to numerous state-of-the-art core facilities (Click Here).  Infectious disease and host response research is in a period of rapid growth at UAMS, with an upcoming ~ $10 million renovation that will enhance animal model-based and biosafety level-3 research.  UAMS is located in the center of activity in Arkansas, with Little Rock being the thriving state capital.  Little Rock is located on the banks of the Arkansas River and is minutes away from cycling, hiking, kayaking, fishing, and many other outdoor activities in the nearby Ouachita and Ozark mountain regions.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree, postdoctoral experience, and documented research productivity.  Applications must include curriculum vitae, statement of research accomplishments and future interests/goals, statement of teaching experience, and contact information for three professional references.  Direct questions and email application materials as a PDF file to Dr. Jon Blevins, Chair of the search committee at jsblevins@uams.edu.  Review of applications will begin immediately.

UAMS is an equal opportunity employer and promotes workplace diversity.  Women and members of underrepresented minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.
